Rosacea is a chronic skin condition characterized by redness, a burning sensation, dilated blood vessels, and lesions resembling acne, primarily occurring on the face.

Rosacea is commonly seen in middle-aged adults and typically manifests symptoms on the central part of the face (forehead, nose, cheeks, chin). It is a condition that can worsen over time and may recur.

The exact cause of rosacea is unknown, but certain factors are believed to trigger the condition. These may include exposure to sunlight, hot or cold weather, stress, alcohol consumption, spicy foods, hot beverages, some skincare products, and other triggering factors that cause the dilation of blood vessels. Additionally, an increased presence of Demodex microorganisms, which are saprophytic mites living on the skin and settling in the oil glands, has been observed in higher amounts in individuals with rosacea.

Symptoms of rosacea can vary from person to person. Redness on the face, a burning sensation, acne-like bumps, dilated blood vessels (telangiectasia), and symptoms such as redness of the eyes or eyelid swelling may occur. In some cases, the skin may thicken, and a condition known as rhinophyma, characterized by an orange peel appearance, may develop, particularly in the nose area, or swelling may be observed in other facial regions.

The treatment of rosacea aims to control the symptoms. Treatment options may include topical (applied) medications, oral (taken by mouth) medications, and laser therapy. Your doctor will recommend the most suitable treatment plan based on the severity of your symptoms and your skin type.

Identifying and avoiding factors that trigger rosacea symptoms is also crucial. Sun protection, the use of appropriate skincare products, stress management, limiting alcohol consumption, and monitoring triggering foods and beverages can help control rosacea symptoms.

To obtain more information about rosacea and create a personalized treatment plan, it is important to consult with a dermatologist. A specialized dermatologist will assess your condition and provide you with the best treatment options.
