Vitiligo in Children and Its Treatment
Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease, also seen in children, characterized by white spots on the skin due to a lack of melanin pigment.
Stains occur due to sun exposure, pregnancy, hormonal disorders, drug use (such as birth control pills), injury (such as peeling of the skin due to waxing).
Despite the increase in treatment options in dermatology today, stains are one of the most difficult skin disorders to treat. Therefore, the primary goal is to prevent the formation of spots. Regular use of sunscreen, regular treatments to strengthen the skin barrier and lifestyle changes (quitting smoking) are important for prevention. Particular attention should be paid to the use of sunscreen during pregnancy or when taking medication that causes sun sensitivity or in patients with skin trauma.
Topical treatments, laser treatments, peeling treatments, mesotherapies and gold needle treatments are applied in spot treatment. Individualized treatment protocols should be created for each patient according to the duration, prevalence, depth and skin type of the patient. Not every treatment is suitable for every patient. Choosing the wrong treatment may worsen the situation.
The most difficult aspect of spot treatment is that spots tend to recur after the treatment is over and the spot is considered a long-term or even chronic skin disease. For this reason, not only these procedures applied in clinics, but also the patient himself should pay attention to skin care at home, sunscreen use and continuity of treatment.
