Vitiligo in Children and Its Treatment
Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease, also seen in children, characterized by white spots on the skin due to a lack of melanin pigment.
Despite her childhood being humiliated due to vitiligo, she never stopped loving herself and became one of the most recognized models in the world. First of all, I would like to start by telling all our vitiligo patients to love yourself.
Unfortunately, vitiligo is one of the most difficult skin diseases to treat in dermatology.
For this reason, our patients sometimes resort to unscientific channels to try their luck and unfortunately are abused.
With this intention, I would like to share new developments with evidence….
Recommendations made in recent studies on topical treatment of Vitiligo in children, adolescents and young adults;
Topical calcineurin inhibitors twice daily,
Topical corticosteroids, which are time-limited due to the risk of atrophy.
Topical ruxolitinib 1.5% cream, used off-label for patients younger than 12 years and limited to non-segmental vitiligo, was defined as evidence-based first-line.
So, if you have vitiligo in an area that covers less than 10% of the body surface area, the first choice is cream treatment and new creams are being developed.
