Things to Consider After Botox
After the Botox procedure, you should not lie down for at least 4-5 hours following the procedure on the same day. In addition, one should not lean forward too much, should not consume alcohol, should not wash the face, and should not massage the area where botox is applied. We also recommend exercising on the same day and avoiding hot environments such as Turkish bath, sauna, solarium.
In fact, we do not recommend hot applications not only on the same day but also on the following days, because hot applications reduce the effect of botulinum toxin.
When does the Botox effect begin, how long does it last, and how often should it be repeated?
Botox is a 10-15 minute procedure performed with small injections that does not require local anesthesia. The effect of this procedure, which does not affect the person's social life much during the day, begins 3-4 days after the procedure and reaches its maximum level in the 2nd week. For this reason, if undesirable effects occur after the procedure, we prefer to apply small doses of additional applications, which we call retouching, after the 2nd week. Sometimes our patients may come to us later for retouching. Here, we strongly emphasize that they should not exceed the 1st month, because intermediate applications after the 1st month may cause resistance to the toxin, which causes us not to achieve the desired effect in subsequent procedures.
The effect of Botox reaches its maximum on the 15th day, and this effect continues at its maximum for approximately 1.5-2 months. After the 2nd month, the effect begins to gradually decrease and the effect generally ends in the 6th month. With repeated applications, these periods may extend slightly over time.
We prefer to apply Botox every 4-6 months. We do not prefer to apply more frequently because resistance to the toxin may develop in frequent applications, which again causes us not to achieve the desired effect in subsequent procedures.
